AUTHOR OF AWARD WINNING ORIGINALS
My pen name for the new series is E.M. Westbrook. My previous historical thrillers were written under my birth name D. J. McIntosh and published by Penguin Random House, U.K. publisher Canelo and a number of international publishers.
My goal now with this new release is to share any profit I make with a wildlife conservation organization, in the hope that my novel is both entertaining and helps to protect our natural world.
By a stroke of great good fortune, internationally celebrated wildlife artist,
Robert Bateman, was my high school home room teacher. One thanksgiving he took some of his students who had a special interest in nature up to Algonquin Park. The highlight of our weekend was visiting the Algonquin wolf research unit. Imagine how thrilled we were to be allowed into one of the pens with a litter of wolf pups! For me, that experience ushered in a life-long love for all wild canines.
You can still visit the Algonquin Discovery Centre to learn about its wolf research project.
Before I could even walk I loved dogs too, as you can see in this picture of me with our puppy Jocko. In those days we lived in the country and when I was a little older, our parents knew that when my sister, cousin and I played outdoors, we’d always be safe with Jocko by our side.
Switching from art theft thrillers to my new series beginning with The White Wolf was inspired by books about dogs and wildlife that have always stayed close to my heart. The Call of the Wild by Jack London, Never Cry Wolf by Farley Mowat, The Yearling by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings and the Albert Payson Terhune novels.
